Travel Photo of the Day: Rawana Ella, Sri Lanka

Rawana Ella Waterfalls, Sri Lanka

Located in the Central highlands of Sri Lanka, Rawana Ella is a beautiful waterfall and one that has rich mythological significance. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, when Ravana kidnapped Sita from Ayodhya, he hid her here behind this waterfall for a brief while before he took her to his kingdom. This area is known for its wildlife sanctuary and its cave where human settlements have been found dating 25,000 years. Located very close to the tea growing town of Ella, this waterfall and cave can be a great pit stop on you journey between Nuwara Eliya/Horton Plains and Sinharaja Reserve/Yala National Park.
