Travel Photo of the Day: Tana Toraja, Indonesia

Lemo Graveyard of Tana Toraja, Indonesia

Tana Toraja in the highlands of Central Sulawesi island in eastern Indonesia is famous for its radical traditions, especially their funeral ceremonies. This island is absolutely blessed with natural beauty. It has gorgeously dense green forests, fast rivers, stunning scenery, volcanoes, marine national parks and what not. Yet, the people visit Sulawesi primarily to see a funeral ceremony at Tana Toraja. That is how different it is. I have attended close to 20 funeral ceremonies here and I can personally vouch for its grandeur. In this photo is the famous lemo graveyard (rock cut coffins) with spirit guardians. And this place is located just on the outskirts of the town of Rantepao.
