Samburu Tribals: Some People Photographs

The Samburu tribals are semi-nomadic cattle herders who live north of the equator in Kenya. They are related to the famous Maasai of Maasai Mara, but have their own traditions. Recently, I got to meet them while exploring the Samburu National Reserve. And I have to say that they are quite a sight with their bright attire, hair-do, bead work and customs.

    Is  it their regular dress or it was a special occasion? Won't be convenient to wear that all day all the time

    Amazing pics, i like exploring different tribes and their traditional lifestyles. however the second last pics of kids wearing normal clothes made we think twice whether the next generation of samburu tribals will live in same traditional lifestyle???

    They are embracing western culture, but still follow their beliefs. But, I tend to agree with you on some levels.

    They wear it all the time except sleeping. I had asked this question to them. For them, it is status. Whenever, they are moving, they wear that. I even saw some women collecting firewood from the nearby forest and they too were wearing such elaborate bead work.

    I think that beads are really used for decorative purposes. The different colors brings life to the beads.
