Macau is known more for its casinos and its insane gambling amounts, but it also has a UNESCO World Heritage site by way of its rich Portuguese culture. This is the old area of Macau with the famous St. Paul’s ruins, St. Augustine’s Square and many colonial churches and buildings. And the best part is that all this old town can be easily covered by foot, thereby allowing one to explore all these sights at leisure.
I loved exploring this side of Macau by foot. All I had was a map in hand and a camera and I went clickety-click. Whenever I felt hungry, I grabbed a bite of the famous Portuguese egg tart or their superb baked cookies and kept moving through this very beautiful and well maintained old Portuguese area of Macau. Have you explored this side of Macau as yet?

ReplyDeleteDedicated Dosa eater from Bombay...I do not eat dosas anywhere except in Bangalore whenever I visit it.
One of my pilgrimage spots in Bangalore is CTR or Central Tiffin Room at the junction of 5th Cross and Margosa Road in Malleshwaram. At 40+ years old, they've only recently (approx 4-5 years ago) given the place a facelift, else the place has a cult status and a super-faithful lot of regulars who have been coming there since the place started. What is unbelievably sexy there is the Benne Sagu Dose, which is brilliant, and as are the Benne (Palya) Masale and the Benne Plain Dose.
Another point about the (now kinda of limited edition stuff they sell there) is that for almost the first 15 years of my being a dedicated pilgrim of CTR, I did not get to taste the Sambar in the place, since it would generally have been finished by 9.00am, and they would not make it again till the evening, again in limited quantity.
They've thankfully heard the clientele call and seemed to have increased the quantity of sambar, daily!!! It is only over the last 7-8 years that I have been obtaining it there easily even if I have visited the place after 9.00am, though a few visits have not yielded. :-)
Have been pushing the glory of this place for Dosas over a long time recommending it to as many people as I can, visit from Mumbai as well as to Bangloreites not familiar with the place. I have eaten dosas at several places across Bangalore and prefer raving about places specifically for one or two of their dishes rather than each and every dish on the menu, since in Bangalore, one gets spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out (and at affordable rates).
Just thought of adding my two bits as a travelling foodie to a fellow traveler and foodie. ;-)
I agree with you. CTR is a great place. Love the food there as well. However, it doesn't feature in this post of mine as this post focuses on South Bangalore, while CTR comes under North Bangalore :-)

ReplyDeleteHow about S N (Shankar Narayana) Refreshments in JP Nagar. It is fantastic !! Masala Dose, Idli, Vade and Kara Bath are out of this world !!! Each time I visit Bangalore, I make it a point to eat at S N Refreshments. I think it belongs in the top 10.
