Life in the Tidal Pools

It is an interesting experience to walk through the tidal pools of the world, but do exercise caution as these tidal pools house a great number of living creatures and organisms and you don’t want to kill them by mistake.

In this instance, I was walking through the tidal pools surrounded by mangrove forests in Havelock Island in the Andamans. It was low tide time and a lot of interesting organisms seemed to be making good use of these six hours.

The mudskippers seemed to be sunbathing after finishing their meal of plankton, algae and insects, while the hermit crabs seemed to be having a field day. They could be seen everywhere.

Even though the ground was soggy, I had to watch out for the fear of stamping these vibrant looking hermit crabs. Traditional crabs could also be seen, though in dark corners and under rocky surfaces.

Other life was also seen in the tidal pool, though am not able to identify them. It is really a surreal experience to walk through the tidal pools of the mangrove forests and play hide and seek with the tidal pool living beings.

Scarecrow spotted at Beach No. 3, Havelock Island

One fine late afternoon, I was taking a leisurely walk on Beach No.3 at Havelock Island in the Andamans.

It was during this walk that I spotted this very interesting scarecrow like object lying on the rocky beach line. This object formed an interesting contrast with the rest of the beach, though I am surprised how it arrived here at this beach and its need here.

A Whale Lookalike!

I was walking on one of the beaches of Havelock Island in the Andamans when I thought I spotted a whale. The excitement in me built up as I picked up my pace to get closer to the whale.

But all this excitement turned into a huge smile on my face when the whale that I thought I saw turned out to be the remains of an inverted boat. It felt like I had just seen a whale illusion.

Beach Holiday: Different Shades on the Beach!

Globally, beach vacations are the most favoured type of holiday. And it gets even better if the destination is a tropical paradise.

Beach holidays are one of my favourites too. They offer a great deal of options to all kinds of tourists.

Whether you are a solo traveller, backpacker, a couple or a family, there is something definitely in store for you.

One of my favourite pastimes while I spent my vacation at Havelock Island was to make a note of all the beach activities that tourists engage in during a beach vacation. Havelock Island is considered the jewel in the tropical Andaman paradise.

Since the waters were very alluring and offered excellent marine life sightings, most of the tourists spent their time in water. Some engaged in adventure sports like scuba diving, snorkelling, while others swam and played water games.

Some engaged in less strenuous work like reading a book on the beach and under the shade of a tropical tree. Some took to taking long walks on the beach during sunrise and sunset times.

Kids built sand castles. Teenagers played frisbee, beach volleyball or beach cricket. At other times, people would take a boat and go on a long fishing trip. When these folks were not on the beach, they were exploring the colourful markets, tasting some local brew and sampling some tasty local cuisine.

Havelock Island – An Emerald Beach Holiday Destination!

This place has Asia’s No. 1 Beach. It is the ultimate jewel in the tropical paradise of Andaman Islands. It’s other beaches are equally exquisite and so are its mangrove shores.

A trek to the secluded Elephant Beach and the nearby tropical and mangrove forests is a great experience. Fishing, swimming, water sports, snorkelling and scuba diving are some of the most popular water activities here. The coral reefs and the marine life it supports are supposed to be unbelievable.

This place is Havelock Island and is a part of the Ritchie’s Archipelago. Its emerald waters totally mesmerized me when I spent my beach holiday there. I believe this place to be one of the most exquisite beach holiday destinations in India.
