Discovering Diversity in Tenerife

Many holiday destinations boast great diversity and a long list of things to see and do. But one place that certainly tops the diversity list is Tenerife - and what's more, it's an absolute cracker of a holiday destination too.

Many people think of Tenerife and think "beach". Yes, it's got fabulous beaches, and plenty of lovely sandy bays that were just made for bathing, paddling, swimming, watersports, or just soaking up that lovely Canarian sunshine. It's also got a vibrant nightlife - another thing that the island has become famous for. Head to the neon-lit Playa de las Americas or stick around after dark in Los Cristianos and you'll soon see what all the fuss is about.

But there's much more to Tenerife than bars and beaches. Shopaholics and sightseers will have a whale of a time in Santa Cruz, the capital city of the island, which is home to fantastic shops, stunning architecture, fantastic restaurants serving up delicious cuisine and plenty more besides. Walkers and nature enthusiasts will get their kicks in the stunning National Park - a sprawling nature reserve in the centre of the island that's also home to Mt Teide, the resident volcano and the tallest peak in Spain. Here you can explore Tenerife's volcanic terrain, enjoy a picnic overlooking its craggy peaks and rolling hillsides, or even whizz to the top of Mt Teide by cable car for soul-stirring views across the island.

Another jewel in Tenerife's crown is its affordability. You'll find plenty of holiday deals to Tenerife on the Thomas Cook website, by searching for last minute holiday deals or by snapping up early bird deals on next year's holidays, which helps to make things that little bit easier.

You can find package holidays and snap up some great deals by searching the tour operators' websites, or you could go your own way by booking scheduled flights and hotel accommodation independently. However you get there, don't miss the chance to explore Tenerife and discover its diversity to the full - you won't regret it!

Summer holidays with a unique twist

The summer holiday is something many people look forward to because it’s a chance to get away, relax, and enjoy some sun for a change. Sometimes it is hard to book a holiday location that everyone will love, as there are aspects to many sunny destinations that appeal to some more than others. However, Co-op Travel has a wide range of offers that mean you are always getting the best value for money, no matter what location you choose.

Going abroad is always exciting, especially if it’s your first time. Travellers are in safe hands with Coop Travel because it offers expert advice on where the most suitable locations are for your needs, as well as the best deals for how long you want to stay. The following is a guide to some of the most unique holiday destinations Co-op Travel provides, and some of the best features about all of them:

Lanzarote
One of the most unique locations within the Canary Islands, it might be expected that Lanzarote would not be the most popular of the islands to visit, since it is only the fourth largest. In fact, Lanzarote’s main income is from tourism and it is one of the most visited places in the area. Lanzarote is also known as being the ‘island of permanent springtime’, since average winters only drop to about 70°F, meaning that the sun is always likely to be in the sky, whatever the time of year.

Tenerife
Another member of the Canary Islands that invariably makes for a popular tourist location, Tenerife provides visitors with beautiful beaches and landscapes, as well as numerous attractions to visit. The location boasts relaxing aspects and there are plenty of fun times to be had, so is great for children and adults alike.

Benidorm
A hugely popular tourist destination, thanks in no small part to its sandy beaches, warm weather, and cultural attractions. The relaxation side of Benidorm is right at your fingertips as soon as you arrive, and other attractions are easily accessed, all to create a holiday that gives you the most for your money. There really is something for everyone and Co-op Travel can provide you with the best deals.

Package holidays from Co-op Travel include all of the aforementioned unique holiday destinations, with varying specifications so you can choose one that suits you. Co-op Travel provides excellent customer service and ultimately a package deal that can lead to your most memorable holiday yet.

Four of the Most Fabulous Fiestas in Tenerife

As the largest and most populous of the Canary Islands, it’s not surprising that Tenerife has the most jam-packed annual events calendar with fiestas and traditional events taking place almost every month! If you’re thinking about taking a trip to Tenerife on cheap flights with airlines like Jet2.com, here are four of the best reasons to go.

Los Reyes Magos, January 5th Although Christmas is a major event for the residents of Tenerife, the real celebration takes place a couple of weeks later with the arrival of Los Reyes Magos, or ‘The Three Kings’. These are the same three kings from the nativity story, and are said to be responsible for distributing gifts across Spain, thus their arrival is marked in all the major towns of Tenerife by colorful parades, fire-eaters, acrobats and musicians, as well as an extravagant fireworks display at night.

Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, February
After the one in Rio de Janeiro, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the second-largest Carnival celebration in the world – and when you experience it, you’ll understand why! Thousands of costumed performers take to the streets to dance until the very early hours, with many different celebrations taking place over the course of about two weeks. The intricate and elaborate costumes will blow your mind and the atmosphere in Santa Cruz around Carnival time is like no other, making February perhaps the ultimate time to make that visit to Tenerife.

Fiestas del Carmen, July 16th You’re going to need your swimsuit if you visit Tenerife around the time of the Fiestas del Carmen, as this festival which celebrates the patron saint of fisherman involves getting very, very wet! Taking place in the town of Puerto de la Cruz, the water around the town’s harbor becomes filled with people, boats and inflatables throughout the day, and the streets are thronged with revelers wielding water guns and buckets, hoping to initiate a large-scale water fight. In the evening, an emotional parade will take place in which a statue of the Virgin del Carmen is sailed around the harbor accompanied by fireworks and music, making an unforgettable end to a truly unique fiesta.

All Saints’ Day, November 1st Images of ‘Sugar Skulls’ have made their way into popular culture in recent years, but their origins lie in All Saints’ Day, a traditional Spanish celebration in which families remember their dear and departed relatives. This day is a national holiday in Tenerife and people will go to the graves of their families to lay flowers, but the enormous flower stalls that line the streets and the ornate displays of flowers and Sugar Skull ornaments that people put together for the occasion are a sight to behold for visitors.

The Attractions in Canary Islands

Tenerife is the biggest island among the seven islands of the Canary Islands and it also has the highest number of residents. It is estimated that five million travellers come to Tenerife each year and it is the highest among other Canary Islands. Tenerife is an island that is sculptured by volcanic eruptions and some of the sceneries here are simply breath-taking. The island is also free from pollution and is one of the cleanest places in Spain.  This is what makes tourists come to this place again and again.

There are two airports on this island, Reina Sofia Airport at the south and Los Rodeos Airport at the north. Both these airports handle domestic flights only, therefore tourists who want to come to this place must come from other airports in Spain like Barcelona El Prat Airport or Madrid-Barajas Airport. As the island is quite big compared to the other Canary Islands, it is highly recommended that you hire a car at car hire Tenerife located at the airport, because this car hire company provides the best service compared to all the other companies available on this island.

Tenerifa was once a really poor region in Spain where the main activity was banana planting in small plantations. It was only after the airports were built in 1960s, that Tenerife became one of the top destinations in Spain in terms of tourists’ numbers. A lot of hotels and resorts were built and the government then built more and more facilities to cater for the crowd of tourists that come here. The south and north side of the island is quite different, and the southern part is more crowded with tourists especially those who come to this island in groups. The weather in the south is also more stable than the north. However, this does not mean that the north does not have the same attraction as the south.

The north offers a more vibrant local culture to its visitors and the weather here is not as hot as the south. Between the two different parts of the island lies the Teide Mountains that is also declared as Teide National Park. This mountain was once a volcano but sadly, tourists are not able to visit the crater of the mountains anymore as there are concerns about safety and security of the tourists.

If you are searching for a great place for a holiday, you can consider Tenerife as the best place you can find in Spain.
