Interesting Facts about Meghalaya

I had recently visited the state of Meghalaya as part of my backpacking trip to North East India. Incidentally, this was also my first visit to Meghalaya. Like other tourists, I too went with some pre-conceived notions about Meghalaya. However, most of these turned out to be just a figment of my imagination.

Here are some of my interesting perceptions from this visit.

The wettest place on the planet ‘Cherrapunji’ suffers from paucity of water in the dry (non monsoon) season.

The wettest district in the world – The East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya has barren landscapes.

The women of Meghalaya are very pretty. In fact, you can lose your heart at every turn.

The people are very fashionable here. The girls, especially are very chic.

The senior native women wear a dress that is a cross between a sari (saree) and a gown.

The names of the places are total tongue twisters and the best part is that the locals pronounce them completely different.

One can get breakfast here as early as 4 AM. It would include puri, bhaji, boiled eggs and a cup of hot black tea.
