Sri Lanka Online Visa for Indians

A couple of years back, we Indians used to get Visa on arrival in Sri Lanka, but today, we have to get an electronic travel authorization approval (ETA) letter in advance before flying into Sri Lanka. This ETA acts like an online visa. The easiest way to get this done is by going to the Sri Lanka’s Online Electronic Travel Authorization System, fill in the required details and pay the visa fee.

In the online form, you would need to fill in your passport particulars, your travel plans, your contact details and your address in Sri Lanka. And once you fill in this form, you have to make a payment of USD 15 through your credit card.

It typically takes 2 days to process your ETA, but in most of the times, you get your approval within 24 hours. This is like an online visa, so you don’t get a sticker on your passport. The ETA is linked to your passport number and all you have to do is show the printout of the ETA while clearing immigration at your port of entry in Sri Lanka.

This type of online visa allows you double entry within a period of 30 days and is valid for a period of 90 days.

Do make sure that along with your ETA, you should have the following documents with you:

1) Passport with a minimum of 6 months validity and 2 empty pages

2) Return flight tickets

3) Sufficient funds to cover your stay in Sri Lanka (This is not very much enforced upon)

Note: The fees paid for ETA is non-refundable and in case you make any mistakes in your application, you lose your money.
