Sikkim Earthquake: Let’s help the people of the hills

Today evening’s earthquake epicentred in Sikkim is a tough natural calamity to have affected the Himalayan Kingdom. My heart goes out to all the kind and helpful people of the hills. Even more so because the bulk of the population stay in the crowded hill stations of Darjeeling and Gangtok, making them even more vulnerable to a natural calamity of this magnitude.

I have very happy memories from this entire mountain belt having trekked the Singalila ridge from near Darjeeling on the Indo-Nepal border not far away from the epicentre of the quake. I am sure a lot of us have great memories of this place and would like to see things get back to normal soon. Hence, keeping that in mind, let’s try our level best to contribute to the quake relief and renovation efforts. Even a miniscule bit from each one of us will make a huge difference.

Let’s help the people affected in the Sikkim Earthquake!

Cloudy and Rainy Day over the Teesta River

It was a lousy day as everything around me seemed dull. Thanks to the rains and the low lying clouds, the world on the winding roads of Sikkim seemed a little bit off colour. And it got even better when a little bit of the sun kept peeping in and out of the clouds. Here are some images from that splendid moment.

Sunset over Teesta River Railway Bridge, Sevok, West Bengal, India

Most of the times, Railway crossings end up being great photo opportunities. This time, we were stopped at the Sevok Railway crossing in West Bengal.

This railway gate connects West Bengal to Sikkim. While this railway line crossing is between the Sevok railway station and the Teesta River railway bridge.

It was about early sunset time when I was here. The dense forested hills stood proudly in the background while the rays of the sunset illuminated the railway tracks to form a exciting view.

And to add to the charm are the interesting personalities and the various trains that you see around. All in all, such a session makes for an eventful railway crossing halt.

BE ON THE ROAD

I love to be on the road and hence I guess it is quite normal that I have a fascination for just plain simple ‘roads’.

The road in the picture is a winding one that leads to the Himalayan state of Sikkim in India. The fresh rains have just added to its aura.
