Some more flora from my Sikkim Gallery

As I have mentioned before, it was a pleasurable experience just to walk through the pristine forests of the Himalayan Zoological Park in Sikkim. The sheer variety and colours can certainly capture your imagination. Here are such varied flora varieties.

Purple Sword Flowers

These are undoubtedly the prettiest flowers that I have personally seen in the recent past. Their grace, their colour, their form, in fact, everything about them seems beautiful to me.

The only unfortunate thing is that I don’t know their name. And that comes as no big surprise as my knowledge of flowers is next to non-existent. Would really appreciate if someone helped me out in identifying this flower.

These purple flowers seemed to be translucent or should I say transparent and it is this attribute of theirs that allowed them to glow or take upon a brighter look when the sun shone on them.

These guys seemed to have some tiny bristles, which was more prominent on their bud form and on the plant shoots. And these again shone brilliantly under the angled sun.

I spotted these flowers while walking through the Himalayan Zoological Park near Gangtok in Sikkim. In fact, I saw a whole wide variety of flowers during my walk here. I can hardly remember a time when I have seen so many unique and pretty flower varieties all in a couple of hours.

Pink Flowers from the Eastern Himalayas – A Photo Series

I saw these very bright and beautiful pink flowers during my visit to the Himalayan Zoological Park in Sikkim. These flowers seemed to be growing on a sturdy type of tree with equally strong branches. Does anyone know their name (local or biological)?

Himalayan Bear

I saw this decently large Himalayan bear sitting on its plump backside at the Himalayan Zoological park in Bulbulay, near Gangtok.

This guy was my new 100-400’s first subject and boy was it an experience. He was quite far away to get him into my frame, but I somehow waited and managed to get some decent shots of him.

Since this was my first attempt at the 2.5 kilogram set, the camera shook a wee bit. But, I guess over time, I will get used to it.

Coming back to the Himalayan bear….It was good for me to see a Himalayan bear for the first time in my life, but I would prefer if a wild animal such as him is left in the wild.

Tibetan Wolf

I saw the ‘Tibetan Wolf’ during my recent visit to the Himalayan Zoological Park near Gangtok in Sikkim, India.

The Tibetan Wolf is a subspecies of the grey wolf that is believed to be the most likely ancestor of the domestic dog.

Well, at least to me, it looked like a woolly version of the domestic dog. It had a nice, thick and furry coat. May be it was ferocious, but I couldn’t tell that by seeing its calm demeanour.

I look forward to see this magnificent creature in the wild someday. So far, the only wolf species that I have seen in the wild is the Indian Wolf.
