Bangkok’s famous river cruise

A trip to Bangkok is not complete without a cruise down its Chao Phraya river. However big Bangkok might look from the outside, a lot of its might comes from its Chao Phraya river and its innumerable canals and waterways. In fact, this is where you will find a vibrant local life. Be it kids going to school, workers rushing to work, markets selling their ware or tourists going clickety-click, the river cruise is the best way to see and feel all these moments right up front. It offers a totally different perspective of Bangkok, which rather used to the true perspective of Bangkok until the city really bloomed.

To travel on the river, take the Chao Phraya express that is run by the government. They charge 3 THB per stop and are pretty economical. Remember to stay away from the umpteen travel agencies who will offer the same ride for as much as 700 THB. Depending on what you want to do, take the ticket from one of the piers and enjoy the cruise.

While you are on the cruise, you can explore Wat Arun, a popular temple on the other side of the river at Thon Buri, check out the various river side markets and even get a glimpse of Bangkok downtown from the river. This cruise is a must in every tourist’s itinerary. You cannot really understand Bangkok unless you’ve been on its river.

Note: It will be quite warm on the boat and hence carry you supply of water, sunscreen, a pair of sunglasses and a hat for protection.
